Hands-On Experience

Looking back on the way out of Moratinos.

The chapel from an old monastery approaching Sahagun.

The monastery’s former gate.

Passing through Sahagun.

I took an alternate route after Sahagun, opting to branch off at a town called Calzada del Coto to follow the Roman road.

That put me at this albergue in Calzadilla de los Hermanillos.

Also home of a magnificent pigeon church!

This is the first cat in Spain who allowed itself to be pet by me.

Calzadilla was a fun time because someone made stew and the five guests and the hostess all had dinner together. It was very charming.

Today I continued along the Roman road towards Mansilla de las Mulas. Because I’d opted for an alternate route, I passed through no intervening towns.

I did pass by a canal.

This turned out to be a real mixed blessing, as I ended up following the tour path instead of the proper trail and ended up getting lost. I managed to get back on track by cutting through a field to an intersecting road.

Eventually I found my way to Mansilla (this is actually from inside the gate.)

(Pigeons in Spain have their racket down.)
